Recently, Finnish label Fonal has ascended to cult-like status, due in part to the fabulous release of Paavoharju’s Yhä hämärä and Islaja’s Palaa Aurinkoon. Each and every offering has something wholly special and TV-Resistori’s Intiaanidisko is certainly no exception. Temporarily abandoning a world of cloudy electronic folk, Fonal has opted for a refreshing and catchy pop initiative.

“Pong-a-long” ceremoniously inaugurates a trip into the 16-bit world of classic video games. Amidst cheerfully nonchalant lyrics and colourful backdrops there lies an unrestricted childhood joy. The happy-go-lucky attitude characterised by comic enthusiasm and musical quirkiness appears awful in theory; plaything instruments, whistling, 80s synthesizers, casual guitars and bubbling choruses really shouldn’t meld yet they do in a perfectly agreeable and gratifying manner.

To surmise such an original concept through identifiable artists is unjust, yet for the sake of familiarity consider TV-Resistori as a seamless blend of Annie, Air and Katsuhiro Hayashi’s “Super Hang On” soundtrack.

Intiaanidisko offers a blissful unwinding allure, a get-up pop catchiness and a straightforward down-to-earth electronic charm.
